Our Story
At Signature Spex-I-Wear Optometry, we believe your eye care should be as unique as your signature. Since no two patients are the same, we take pride in offering personalized solutions tailored to your vision, lifestyle, and long-term eye health.
Our practice has been part of Fresno’s community since 1960, built on a foundation of trust and dedicated care. What began at the Fig Garden Village shopping center has evolved through generations of respected optometrists — from Dr. Merrill Bonander and Dr. Jerry Keyes, to Dr. David Urien, and now under the leadership of Dr. Chris Fisher.
In 2014, Dr. Fisher became the proud owner of the practice, continuing the commitment to patient-focused care. In 2019, Signature Optometry expanded by welcoming the patients of Spex-I-Wear Optometry, following the acquisition of Dr. Jervy Smith’s established practice. To honor this growth and the combined legacy, the practice became Signature Spex-I-Wear Optometry.
That same year, the Kerman location was closed to concentrate fully on serving Fresno from our Palm and Barstow office, where we continue to provide advanced, compassionate eye care for every stage of life.

Dr. Fisher
Originally from Michigan, Dr. Chris Fisher moved to Fresno to start a life with his wife Luna and quickly became passionate about providing personalized, cutting-edge eye care to the community. His approach to optometry blends expert knowledge with a dedication to each patient’s unique needs.
Dr. Fisher holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry from California State University, Fresno, and completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee — training that allows him to offer the latest, most effective solutions for a wide range of vision issues.
In 2014, Dr. Fisher took ownership of what is now Signature Spex-I-Wear Optometry, continuing a trusted legacy of serving Fresno families. His commitment to comprehensive, compassionate care is reinforced by his active leadership in the Central California Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association, ensuring that he stays at the forefront of new technologies and treatments.
